Periphon

About

Motivation

Multichannel output systems are big and expensive. A pro-audio USB interface might offer eight analog outs, but take a rack's worth of space. The Periphon I16 is the most compact USB audio interface to deliver 16 channels of balanced analog output.

Built to be embeddable, Periphon exists to deliver rich multichannel sound to new spaces.

Periphon is a modular toolkit. The I16 provides a USB audio interface delivering 16 balanced analog channels over either two industry-standard DB25 connectors or four 8x2 IDC ribbon cables. With a DB25-to-XLR cable, an I16 can immediately provide output to powered monitors or PA systems. The 8x2 IDC ribbon cables supply four channels to the Periphon A4 amplifiers, which provide ultra-quiet amplification out to Neutrik NL8 or direct speaker connections. As powering 16 channels of amplifiers can be challenging, the Periphon Hub can be used to power up to four A4 amplifiers, as well as the I16. While you can choose any 8Ω speaker, the Tetravox line of four-channel speakers provides novel voicings and spatial arrangements, connectable to the A4 over a single Neutrik NL8.

Periphon is for anyone designing sound in space, with novel applications for visual displays, interactive exhibits, robotics, and sound installations.

About me

After receiving an undergraduate degree in Music from Harvard University, Christopher Ariza researched computer music and algorithmic composition as part of a PhD from NYU. As an Assistant Professor of Music Technology at Towson University, he taught students recording techniques. As Visiting Assistant Professor at MIT, he led students in hardware hacking and performing live electronics on laptops. After 14 subsequent years of enterprise software engineering and leadership, culminating in serving as CTO at Research Affiliates, Christopher, with Periphon, returns to his origins.

All Periphon products are designed in California. Electronics are internationally sourced and assembled. Loudspeakers are hand-built in California using internationally sourced materials.
